Robert Half is looking for a Controller. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Brookwood, Alabama area.
What you get to do every day
Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management
Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations
Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis
Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports
Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Requirements - Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment
Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
Sound written and verbal communication skills
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Wide ranging experience with budgeting
Proven knowledge of Asset Inventory
Practical knowledge of Federal Taxes
Experience with Accounts Receivable (AR)
Expertise in Microsoft Excel
Well-founded grasp of Annual Inventory
Quality experience with Local Taxes
Accounts Payable (AP) experience
Comprehensive knowledge of QuickBooks
Skills in month end closings
Good understanding of Financial reporting standards
General familiarity with Full Cycle Payroll
Previous experience working with Prepare Financial Reports
Strong familiarity with billing
Earlier work involving budget forecasting
Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
CPA or MBA preferred
Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills
Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
