This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Chattanooga, Tennessee region.
Responsibilities
Comfortable in taking on tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective
Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations
Requirements
Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)
Ability to meet deadlines
Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Accomplished in analytical, quantitative and social skills
Foundational knowledge in Sage Software
Solid understanding of month end closings
Microsoft Excel experience highly desired
Financial statement preparation experience
Proven knowledge of Adjusting Journal Entries
Proficiency in KPI Reporting
Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
