Our client, a real estate investment holding company headquartered Downtown Chicago is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their corporate team!! Position Summary: This Sr. Accountant will be responsible for financial analysis and reporting for respective corporate entities, including period-end financial statement preparation and review, general ledger analysis and maintenance, and the month-end close process. This position requires in-depth understanding of appropriate financial reporting in accordance with accepted accounting principles and adherence to company policy, external agreements, and loan documents. Problem solving through analytical reasoning and effective communication with stakeholders are key elements to success within the role. Responsibilities Include: ---Prepare and review of monthly financials for student living and other corporate entities. ---Journal entry maintenance in accordance with GAAP and the company's policies and procedures. ---Support entries with proper documentation and review and prepare journal entries for approval. ---Prepare monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, while maintaining clean supporting documentation. ---Engage with asset management, investment management and property control to analyze period financial performance. Develop and produce operations variance analyses, and take part in presenting findings to management. ---Participate in the annual operating budget process and period reforecasts through supporting analysis and compilation. ---Assist in the coordination and preparation of assigned information for monthly and annual reporting and external audits. ---Assist with various ad hoc projects. Education/Experience: ---BA in accounting, advanced degree a plus. ---CPA preferred. ---1-2 years of progressive experience within corporate accounting and/or investment companies. ---Student housing asset class experience a plus. ---Public accounting experience a plus. Skills/Abilities Required: ---Ability to manage time effectively, prioritizing competing and interdependent tasks in order to meet deadlines. ---Ability to perform detailed work accurately with short deadlines. ---Critical thinking with a strong desire to approach tasks analytically. ---Ability to interact with all levels within the company and handle matters professionally. ---Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint (data compilation and analysis). ---Comfortable working in an open, team-oriented environment. ---Proactive and eager to learn. ---Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting and financial information. ---Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. ---Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. ---Ability to focus on details and perform functions with accuracy.
