Description

Our client, a prominent construction and development company based in Horsham, PA, is seeking a Senior Construction Accountant to oversee financial activities related to development and construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), construction accounting practices, and financial analysis. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, expertise in job costing, proficiency in budgeting and forecasting, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monthly and Quarterly Close:

  • Execute monthly and quarterly financial close processes in compliance with GAAP standards.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results to senior management.

  • Development and Construction Pipeline Close:

  • Coordinate close activities specific to development and construction pipeline projects.

  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate financial data collection and reporting.

  • Preparation of Monthly Construction and Land Loan Draws:

  • Prepare all documentation and calculations necessary for monthly construction and land loan draws.

  • Verify expenses, progress, and compliance with loan terms before submission.

  • Job Costing on Building Projects in Progress:

  • Implement and maintain comprehensive job costing procedures for all ongoing construction projects.

  • Analyze project costs, variances, and trends to ensure accuracy and identify areas for improvement.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage budgets for construction projects, considering timelines, resource allocation, and cost estimates.

  • Collaborate with project teams to forecast financial performance and anticipate potential challenges or opportunities.

  • Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.

  • Generate reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting key insights and recommendations.

  • Compliance and Audit Support:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls related to construction accounting.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed.

  • Systems Proficiency:

  • Utilize Yardi or similar software for construction accounting, with a focus on the job cost module.

  • Leverage strong intermediate Excel skills for data analysis, modeling, and reporting.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required.

  • 3+ years of experience in construction or development accounting, with a focus on job costing and financial analysis.

  • Proficiency in GAAP principles and financial reporting standards.

  • Experience with Yardi software, particularly in the job cost module, is advantageous.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, vlookup, and financial modeling.

  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

  • Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

  • BA/BS in Accounting, CPA credentials are preferred

  • Great attention to detail

  • Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills highly desired

  • Skilled at time management

  • Demonstrated ability in strong analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • General familiarity with GAAP Accounting

  • Well-founded grasp of month end closings

  • Construction Accounting experience preferred

  • Experience with WIP - Work In Progress

  • Yardi Software experience required

  • Practical knowledge of US GAAP

  • Yardi Enterprise experience desired

  • Proven knowledge of Construction Loans

  • Microsoft Excel experience

  • Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines

  • Prior work done in public accounting is desired

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Experience with ERP systems
