Job Title: Accounts Receivable (AR) Specialist

Job Description:

Our client, a distinguished company in downtown Houston, is seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Specialist to join their growing finance division. This role will be responsible for handling all aspects of the accounts receivable operation, with a keen focus on managing delinquent accounts, communicating efficiently with customers, and investigating payment discrepancies. This role is 100% onsite.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Handle a high volume of delinquent accounts, aiming to minimize overdue payments and balance financial risk.

  2. Actively engage with customers through calls and emails to resolve outstanding payments.

  3. Diligently apply account payments and credits to maintain accurate financial records.

  4. Execute collections strategies by creating credits, bad debt write-offs, and other adjustments as needed.

  5. Negotiate and finalize payment plan arrangements with customers to enable manageable debt repayment.

  6. Process payments when appropriate, ensuring accurate and timely transactions.

  7. Prepare and deliver collections packets for further recovery actions when necessary.

  8. Organize and present disconnection of service packets in cases of persistent non-payment.

  9. Independently handle special projects related to the research and analysis of customer accounts and payments.

  10. Ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and applicable regulations in all accounts receivable operations.

  11. Review and reconcile invoice discrepancies, identify errors, and provide solutions in a timely manner.

  12. Perform routine audits of billing data for accuracy.

  13. Collaborate with the sales and customer service departments to amend customer billing issues.

  14. Maintain customer trust by managing sensitive financial information with utmost confidentiality.

    Requirements

The successful candidate should have the following technical skills and experience:

  1. Proven experience as an Accounts Receivable Specialist or a similar role within a finance department.

  2. Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and accounts receivable specific tasks, with a focus on the application of payments and credits to accounts.

  3. Expertise in handling high volumes of data and the ability to identify, resolve, and prevent discrepancies efficiently.

  4. Proficiency in the use of industry-leading accounts receivable and general ledger software, with exposure to SAP, Oracle, or similar systems.

  5. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel (use of pivot tables, VLookup, etc.), to handle and analyze financial data.

  6. Familiarity with electronic bill payment processes.

  7. Experience conducting audits of billing data and ensuring data integrity across AR systems.

  8. Proven ability to implement and improve accounts receivable procedures and controls.

  9. Strong technological adaptability to learn new financial systems and software as needed.

  10. Comfortable following and creating data-driven financial reports and capable of interpreting such data for process improvement and decision-making.
