Position: In House Counsel - Labor & Employment

Compensation: $150-175k DOE, plus bonus

Hybrid: 3 days in office

Location: Downtown Nashville

Our client is looking for an In House Counsel to join their team in Nashville, Tennessee. This role involves providing labor and employment support to the firm’s HR business partners You will be expected to balance the practicality of solutions with legal risk mitigation. Your exceptional communication and innovative problem-solving skills will be vital in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Provide labor and employment legal support to the firm's HR business partners

• Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, showcasing your organizational and time management skills

• Use your verbal and written skills to provide persuasive and valued counsel

• Review and prepare employment agreements, performance documentation, and separation documents

• Stay updated with new federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and ensure compliance with them

• Handle a broad range of employment matters on day-to-day employee issues relating to recruiting, hiring, performance management, compensation, reorganization and restructuring, wage and overtime standards, leaves of absence, return to work and accommodation issues, terminations, and Title VII compliance

• Mitigate risk related to employee-life cycle events such as hiring, employee relations, performance management, termination, and workforce reductions

• Collaborate with the Legal and Compliance Department to prevent, detect and mitigate regulatory and reputational risk.

Requirements

• Must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

• Admitted to the state bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law.

• Proven experience in labor law and employment law for employers.

• Demonstrable ability to create legal defensive strategies.

• Proficient in drafting legal documents and contracts.

• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

• Sound judgment and ability to analyze situations and information.

• Strong understanding of corporate law practices and procedures.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity and professionalism.

• Must have excellent problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently but also collaborate effectively as part of a team.
