Description Non-Profit Controller search - Almost fully remote - Compensation up to $160K

My client is a mid to large sized grant funded non-profit. They are sourcing a new Controller to replace their current Controller that has enjoyed a successful career with the organization and is preparing to retire. This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP standards. Coordinate audits and reviews of financial records, including single audits for federal grants, and ensure timely submission of required reports. Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards, federal regulations, and grant requirements to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with program managers to develop realistic budgets aligned with grant-funded activities and organizational goals. Monitor budget variances, analyze financial performance, and provide insights to management for decision-making. Federal Grants Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of federal grants from application to closeout, ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines. Monitor grant expenditures, track funding allocations, and ensure proper documentation of expenses. Implement and maintain systems to track grant-funded activities, ensuring accurate reporting of program outcomes and impact. Team Leadership and Development: Supervise and mentor finance staff, providing guidance and detail oriented development opportunities. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and collaboration within the finance team and across departments. Promote continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and strengthen internal controls. Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA required. Extensive experience (5+ years) in financial management, with a focus on federal grants administration within the nonprofit sector. In-depth knowledge of federal grant regulations, including OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and other relevant compliance requirements. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations. Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships. Proven leadership experience, including the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
