Description

Our client is a stable, well-funded Non-Profit in DC currently seeking their next Controller. This is a key role where you will report directly to the CFO, overseeing all finance, accounting, and reporting operations. This strategic position not only involves day-to-day finance tasks, but also leading the accounting staff and ensuring our organization has the appropriate systems and procedures in place across all departments.

Your role will include:

• Supervision and control of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems in line with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements

• Maintaining vigilance over financial activities, ensuring accuracy in revenue receipts, costs, and expenditures

• Streamlining annual external financial audits

• Compilation and presentation of crisp and timely financial reports

• Assisting with annual budgeting and planning; reviewing and comparing financial plans with actual results

• Monitoring organizational cash flow and performance of invested assets

• Leading transition to a new accounting software system

• Ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local taxes

Requirements

Ideal candidates will possess:

• BA and CPA or an MBA/Master’s degree

• At least 7+ years of accounting and finance experience in a complex non-profit organization

• 5+ years of supervisory experience with a stellar managerial track record

• Strong experience in audit activities, reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments

• Solid understanding of GAAP financial reporting

• Experience with grants management related to compliance and corporate/foundation reporting is beneficial

• Excellent analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to articulate financial concepts to non-financial personnel
