Robert Half Grant Accountant in West Haven, Connecticut

Description We are in the non-profit sector and located West Haven, Connecticut. We are seeking a Grant Accountant. This role involves understanding grant accounting, tracking funding sources, recognizing revenue for federal grants, and assisting with month-end close processes. The workplace is a dynamic environment that encourages collaboration and initiative.

Responsibilities • Understand and manage grant accounting for various funding sources • Track and report on separate funding sources for the fiscal year • Recognize revenue for federal grants and assist in other roles as necessary • Understand federal grant and serve as a backup when necessary • Assist with month-end close processes including creating journal entries, preparing monthly financial reports, and performing general ledger account reconciliations • Manage state grants and workbooks • Use Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting • Carry out accounting functions using MIP Accounting System • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications • Manage multiple tasks under time-sensitive deadlines, demonstrating excellent organizational skills • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders in cross-functional settings

This role offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant accounting or a related field

• Proficiency in using accounting software systems

• Comprehensive understanding of accounting functions

• Experience in auditing and budget processes

• Knowledge of compliance regulations and procedures related to non-profit organizations

• Ability to manage expenditure and budgeting for grants

• In-depth understanding of grant accounting procedures and principles

• Experience in managing and administering federal grants

• Proficiency in grant management and grant administration

• Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including the use of VLOOKUP and Pivot Table functions

• Ability to work in a non-profit environment and understand its unique needs and challenges

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
