Robert Half Assistant Controller in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Description
We are offering an exciting employment opportunity in ANN ARBOR, Michigan for an Assistant Controller for a family owned and operated Robert Half client. The chosen candidate will be deeply involved in the financial operations within our industry, focusing on job costing, Work In Progress, and Percentage of Completion accounting for multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage job costing, Work In Progress (WIP), and Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting for multiple projects.
Assist with the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable/receivable, and intercompany transactions.
Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement to management.
Coordinate with the construction team to ensure accurate allocation of costs to job sites and work in progress.
Ensure timely filing of tax documents and compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
Support the Controller and management team in ad-hoc projects and special initiatives as needed.
Utilize accounting software and technology tools to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting accuracy.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in the construction industry, specifically with WIP, POC, and job costing.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred).
Proven experience in preparing financial statements, handling bank reconciliations, and managing month-end closing processes.
Strong proficiency with accounting software and technology tools, including ERP systems (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint, QuickBooks).
Strong understanding of construction accounting practices and cost management.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
A proactive and collaborative approach to work, with the ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and project management teams.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
