Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Accounts Receivable Representative for a Houston-based hospital system. The medical account representative needs to have a strong background in Physician Revenue Cycle and Insurance Collections, particularly with government entities including Traditional Medicaid and Managed Medicaid Plans. Experience with Out-of-State Medicaid is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively appealing insurance claim denials, underpayments, and demonstrating a deep understanding of root cause analysis in insurance-related activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounts receivable process for medical services provided, focusing on collections from government entities such as Traditional Medicaid and Managed Medicaid Plans.

  • Review and analyze insurance claims to identify denials and underpayments, and initiate appeals processes as necessary.

  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify trends and issues contributing to claim denials and underpayments.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including billing and revenue cycle management, to resolve outstanding accounts receivable issues promptly.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of appeals, correspondence, and interactions with insurance providers.

  • Utilize Excel and Epic software systems to track and manage accounts receivable data effectively.

  • Provide support and assistance to billing staff in resolving complex insurance-related issues.

  • Stay updated on changes in Medicaid policies, regulations, and billing procedures to ensure compliance and maximize revenue opportunities.

  • Communicate effectively with government entities, insurance providers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate the resolution of accounts receivable issues.

  • Assist in training new staff members on accounts receivable processes and procedures.

    Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in appealing insurance claim denials and underpayments, preferably in a healthcare setting.

  • Strong understanding of Physician Revenue Cycle and Insurance Collections processes, particularly with government entities such as Traditional Medicaid and Managed Medicaid Plans.

  • Experience with Out-of-State Medicaid is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Epic software systems.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis of insurance-related activities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in managing accounts receivable data and documentation.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience working in billing and/or general pediatric facilities is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field is preferred.
