Robert Half International Manager of Strategic Initiatives in BERKELEY, California



The Manager of Strategic Initiatives will effectively develop, lead the go-to-market and growth strategy, and coordinate the process of operationalizing new business ventures beginning with a new digital content platform. The Manager of Strategic Initiatives will serve as a member of the Department of Marketing, Strategy, and Enrollment Management, working alongside and collaborating closely with colleagues in Marketing, Communications and Outreach; Recruitment and Admissions; the Office of the Dean; and the Library. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities, easefully exercise patience and discernment in synthesizing multiple points-of-view, possess laser precision in project management, conduct business with a high level of discretion, and successfully lead a team of both in-house and external talent meet and report upon success benchmarks for new products. The Manager will report to the Chief Strategy Officer, and be supported by a part-time project assistant, as well as a network of in-house professionals and consultants with industry-specific expertise.


Product Leadership and Development

o Platform, Content, and Project Management

o Serves as primary “owner” of designated new business ventures, accountable for product development and launch in alignment with approved business objectives and timelines

o Spearhead development and lead execution of product roadmaps reflective of agreed upon business goals and timelines, creating new processes as needed

Launch, lead, and grow Platform initiative, including:

o Strategic Planning and Product Launch

o Ownership of platform, collaborating closely with VP and other stakeholders to craft strategic approach and oversee day-to-day

o Collaborate with consultants to own product Dev roadmap

o Marketing and Sales Enablement (40%) a. Strategic Planning & Implementation

o Develop and execute consumer (b2c) and enterprise (b2b) marketing and sales plans, working in partnership with marketing team and other senior leadership

o Establish sales funnel for both b2c and b2b segments

o Research, Reporting and Analysis

o Provide comprehensive market research to guide product development and inform go-to-market strategy

o Report on partner and client engagement and seek out new ways to strategically drive product adoption for consumer and enterprise end-users

o Tracks performance of efforts using a variety of reporting tools and in consultation with vendors and applies insights to continuously improve effectiveness

o Prepares monthly data dashboards reflecting the outcomes of ongoing, core marketing and sales efforts

o Applies data-driven mindset to assessment of past marketing and sales efforts and inform future opportunities

o Sales Enablement i. Develops sales and pricing strategy for consumer and enterprise end-users

o Manage all aspects of sales cycle, inclusive of proposal development, preparation and stewardship of agreements, fulfillment of benefits, evaluation, and reporting


• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preference for master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent Experience:

• Minimum 7 years’ of related experience in business and/or product development

• Demonstrated track record of planning and launching new digital products end-to-end, with definable results, in the higher education or EdTech sectors

• Experience leading a team, and providing the vision, feedback, coaching and mentorship necessary to ensure high-level of performance and success. Effective management of designated support staff and vendors

• Experience prospecting enterprise-level clients

• Creative visionary for creative application of digital media and remote learning modalities, and ability to confidently make recommendations about which platforms and technical solutions would best match business needs

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (365 preferred), G-Suite, email marketing (Mailchimp preferred), CMS applications (Drupal preferred), project management software (Asana preferred), Student Information Systems (SONIS or other Jenzabar product preferred), and payment platforms

• Proficiency using performance and market research analysis tools such as Google Analytics and labor market statistics tools, and ability to deliver timely, actionable reports

• Demonstrated ability to cull and apply market insights and marketing and sales performance outcomes to the development of new strategic plans, as well as optimization and pivot strategies for plans in flight

• High degree of expertise with project, creative, and budget management
