Robert Half International Accounts Payable Supervisor/Manager in BIRMINGHAM, Alabama


Robert Half Finance and Accounting is looking to fill an Accounting Payable Manager role in the Birmingham, AL area. This role will not be like other traditional AP Manager positions. This will be a key Business Partner within this company as it will be a dynamic and unique role. This person will be expected to come in and identify current processes and procedures while being able to recognize problems and improve efficiency/processes. The person in this role will lead and develop a team of 6 across Accounts Payable, collaborate with IT to drive systems and process efficiencies, manage the day to day transaction activities, manage and train other AP Specialists and collaborate with the compliance team on controls and compliance initiatives.This position will start out overseeing 2 full-time AP Specialists and a couple of temp AP Specialists, but by end of 2020 will manage at least 4. The company and department will continue to grow to at least 5-6+.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Coordinate and manage the AP process from invoice receipt to payment processing, with a strong focus on process scalability to facilitate company growth

• Design and implement policies and controls for the AP department with a key focus on organization, efficiency and accurate record keeping

• Implement and maintain all AP software and technology

• Lead the department to minimize error rate by applying excellent attention to detail and a clear understanding of accounting concepts and general ledger classification

• Drive department efficiency utilizing relevant metrics and KPIs

• Provide outstanding support and training to AP staff

• Maintain and build relationships with integral vendors and other third parties

• Coordinate and manage the company’s expense reimbursement process in SAP Concur

• Execute vendor payments based on agreement terms, while maximizing early payment discounts

• Assist the Accounting department in determining monthly accruals for recurring invoices not received at the end of the applicable period

• Provide reports and detailed analysis as required to leaders within the organization to create transparency around company performance

Key Requirements:

  1. Must have proven management experience

  2. Ideally wants someone who has been or is currently an AP Manager that is dynamic, a great communicator, and is a problem solver.

  3. someone who has been in and thrives in a growth environment that can streamline processes and improve efficiency.

  4. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required

  5. Someone who has done high volume AP
