Robert Half Senior Accountant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Description We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Property Accountant in the Real Estate & Property industry, located in BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Michigan. The primary function of this role is to ensure a smooth, efficient, and organized accounting operation across our funds, the management company, and related entities. This role will require interaction with teammates across the firm as well as key outside vendors.
Responsibilities
• Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including, but not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, debt and interest, and investment activity.
• Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for management reporting.
• Assist in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, including monthly financial close workbook preparation at the Fund level, as well as the Property level.
• Assist in implementing, maintaining, and adhering to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
• Maintain fixed asset ledger and coordinate with outside accounting firm on fixed asset improvements placed in service, depreciation, and reconciliation to general ledger.
• Maintain capital project log inclusive of coordinating approvals, processing payments, tracking capital spend to budget, retaining documentation for audit, and interacting with asset management and acquisition teams.
• Assist and advise third-party property managers on accounting inquiries as needed.
• Assist with annual audit and tax requests from public accounting firms.
• Interact and assist with monthly and quarterly activity prepared by third-party fund administration firms.
• Assist with preparation of quarterly reporting to investors.
• Responsible for monthly expense report process of the management company.
• Complete allocation journal entries of management company expenses to Funds/Properties.
• Process Fund and management company payments to vendors.
• Perform management company actual to budget reporting.
• Assist with property tax payment process including maintenance of tracking schedule.
• Assist with treasury and cash management including cash reporting and transfers to/from Funds.
• Participate in various company-wide initiatives. Requirements • Proven experience in the Real Estate & Property industry
• Proficiency in GAAP Accounting principles
• Demonstrated ability in Account Reconciliation
• Experience in Financial Statement Preparation
• Proficiency in using MRI Software
• Experience with QuickBooks software
• Knowledge of Real Estate Accounting principles
• Experience in Private Equity
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
