Description Legal Assistants directly support lawyers and may be required to supervise other legal staff, such as legal secretaries or file clerks.Legal Assistants should have computer and technical knowledge as well as strong analytical, communication and organizational skills.In some cases, law firms prefer three to five years of legal experience in a law firm or other corporate legal department.
How you will make an impact
Stay on top of legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
Prepare documents for photocopying/scanning
Quality check copies against originals and confirm copies
Administer matter management and record keeping
Take care of computer database input and retrieval
Look through a variety of court and agency web sites and collect relevant content
Produce correspondence and memorandum
Categorize documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers and paralegals
Electronically categorize files
Filing, word processing, and faxing Requirements - Conducting routine discovery
General familiarity with Draft Legal Documents
Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suites
Proficiency in Calendar Management
Demonstrated knowledge of litigation
Command of Microsoft Outlook
Practical knowledge of e-file
Adeptness in Defense Litigation
Insurance defense experience highly desired
Draft Contracts experience preferred
Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for transactional closings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases or transactions
3+ years of previous legal work experience and a dedication to integrity
Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
