Position Overview:

The Executive Director of Budget is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation processes within an organization. This role involves strategic financial management, ensuring the efficient use of resources, and aligning the budget with the organization’s goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Budgeting:

  • Develop and implement the organization’s annual budget and long-term financial plans.

  • Align the budgeting process with the strategic goals and priorities of the organization.

  • Coordinate with various departments to gather budgetary requirements and ensure comprehensive financial planning.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to inform decision-making and optimize resource allocation.

  • Prepare and present regular financial reports to the executive team, board of directors, and other stakeholders.

  • Monitor and report on budget performance, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.

Resource Allocation and Management:

  • Oversee the allocation of financial resources to ensure efficient and effective use.

  • Develop policies and procedures for budget management and financial controls.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and organizational policies.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and manage the budget team, providing direction, support, and professional development opportunities.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration within the team.

  • Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on financial matters.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support financial planning and budgeting activities.

  • Communicate financial information and budgetary decisions clearly and effectively to all relevant parties.

  • Engage with funding bodies, auditors, and regulatory agencies as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, or a related role.

  • Proven track record of managing large and complex budgets in a senior leadership capacity.

  • Experience in a non-profit, public sector, or large corporate environment is an asset.

  • Skills:

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.

  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.

  • Effective communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., ERP systems, Excel).

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
