Robert Half Finance has an opening for an ambitious Controller for a reputable company in the Utilities/Infrastructure industry. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Brentwood, Tennessee region.

Your responsibilities

  • Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

Requirements

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Solid understanding of month end closings

  • Credit risk management experience

  • Expertise in Accounting Principles

  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics

  • Foundational knowledge in compliance

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)
