Robert Half Finance is searching for an ambitious Controller to join a reputable Entertainment company. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, analyzes accounting and internal control systems, and guides departmental staff. Based in the New York area, this opening for a Controller is a full-time position. Remote for now and hybrid work in house/work from home model when things are safe to do so.

Major responsibilities

  • Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

  • Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

  • Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

    Requirements - Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Practical knowledge of financial reporting

  • Proficiency in Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of month end closings

  • Foundational knowledge in fixed assets

  • Prepare Financial Statements experience highly desired

  • Background working with CPA

  • Financial reporting experience highly preferred

  • Adeptness in NetSuite

  • General familiarity with general ledger

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general ledger

  • Accounts Payable (AP) experience preferred

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Top notch analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
