Robert Half Medical Records Clerk in Buffalo, New York

Description We are in search of a Medical Records Clerk to join our team in BUFFALO, New York. In this role, you will play a crucial part in managing and maintaining patient records, coordinating the release of medical information, and assisting with various administrative tasks. This role offers a long-term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately locate and distribute patient medical records for both inpatient and outpatient units or department reviews

• Regularly conduct rounds to nursing units and departments to collect discharged patients’ charts and previous records

• Index and file inpatient and outpatient records using the terminal digit filing system

• Update the master patient index upon patient admission and discharge for outpatient clinic

• Consolidate, reassemble, and thin inpatient charts as necessary

• Initiate the creation of folders to be used upon patient discharge and assemble the contents of discharged patients’ chart binders into these folders

• Review admission and discharge reports for errors and report any found to Admissions and supervisor

• Assist with daily correspondence and transcription processes as assigned

• Verify authorizations in line with hospital policy, state, and federal laws

• Maintain a daily log of all patient names, requested information, and released information

• Order office supplies as needed and complete assignments given by the Director within stated deadlines. Requirements • Proven ability to maintain and organize files in a medical setting

• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, and other stakeholders

• Experience in ordering and managing office supplies, ensuring the smooth operation of the office

• Knowledge of medical terminology and health care regulations will be advantageous

• Proficiency in using medical software and electronic health record systems

• High attention to detail and accuracy in managing sensitive medical records

• Ability to respect patient confidentiality and adhere to data protection laws

• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

• Basic knowledge of medical billing and coding procedures

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in Health Information Management is a plus.
