The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Charlotte, North Carolina region. Planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff will be essential for this role. Candidates who know how to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Your responsibilities in this role
Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective
Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports
Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques Requirements - Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Top notch analytical, quantitative and social skills
CPA or MBA preferred
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
High attention to detail
Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Construction Accounting experience
Financial statement preparation experience
Foundational knowledge in Sage 300
Month end closings experience
Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)
