Job Title: Server Manager
Overview: As a Server Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's server infrastructure. You will lead a team of system administrators and engineers to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of servers and associated systems. Your role will involve strategic planning, project management, and collaboration with other IT teams to support business operations and objectives.
Responsibilities:
Server Infrastructure Management: Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of the organization's server infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, storage systems, and data center facilities. Ensure that servers are properly configured, secured, and optimized to meet business requirements and performance goals.
Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of system administrators, engineers, and technicians responsible for server operations and support. Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members to foster professional growth and development.
Strategic Planning and Project Management: Develop and implement strategic plans and roadmaps for server infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and optimizations. Coordinate with other IT teams and stakeholders to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and track progress towards objectives.
Security and Compliance: Establish and enforce server security policies, access controls, and compliance standards to protect sensitive data and systems from cyber threats, malware, and unauthorized access. Conduct security assessments, audits, and remediation activities to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor server performance, resource utilization, and availability metrics using monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques. Identify and address performance bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and system vulnerabilities to ensure optimal server performance and reliability.
Backup and Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery plans for critical servers and applications. Configure automated backup schedules, data replication, and failover mechanisms to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity in the event of hardware failures, data corruption, or natural disasters.
Vendor Management and Procurement: Evaluate server hardware and software vendors, products, and solutions to ensure alignment with business requirements and technical specifications. Negotiate contracts, service agreements, and licensing terms with vendors to optimize costs and maximize value for the organization.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of server configurations, procedures, and operational processes. Generate regular reports on server performance, capacity utilization, and security posture to management and stakeholders.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, VMware Certified Professional) are highly desirable.
Proven experience in server management or a similar leadership role, with hands-on experience managing enterprise-scale server infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, virtualization technologies, and network protocols.
Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve goals and deliver results.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and vendors at all levels of the organization.
