Robert Half Payroll Specialist in Chesapeake, Virginia
Description We are offering a long-term contract employment opportunity for a Payroll Specialist in Chesapeake, Virginia. The hired individual will work in a school system environment, processing bi-weekly payroll for over 500 employees and ensuring accurate payroll records.
Responsibilities:
• Processing bi-weekly payroll for a large number of employees
• Ensuring accurate entry of payroll deductions and pay changes
• Handling and resolving payroll-related inquiries from employees
• Filing payroll taxes on a regular basis
• Processing various legal documents related to payroll such as liens and garnishments
• Keeping up-to-date with Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) standards and best practices
• Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to payroll processing
• Collaborating with the rest of the finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
• Managing year-end payroll activities
• Using in-house systems to maintain and manage payroll data. Requirements • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar role
• Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) is required
• Proven experience handling payroll for over 500 employees
• Expertise in payroll taxes and year-end payroll procedures
• Experience with in-house payroll systems
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent numerical skills and ability to work with complex data
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Good understanding of labor legislation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle confidential information
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• High degree of professionalism and ethical standards
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to meet tight deadlines.
