Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for an Attorney/Lawyer based in Chicago, Illinois, 60603, United States. The role will involve various responsibilities that revolve around civil litigation, commercial litigation, complex commercial litigation, and complex litigation. The ideal candidate will be involved in preparing documentation, reviewing case law, preparing exhibits, and undertaking several legal duties to assist the State.

Responsibilities:

• Preparation of documentation and review of case law to assist the State in debt collection from State agencies

• Civil enforcement of taxes administered by the Department

• Undertaking litigation to enforce labor laws and actions to enforce licensing laws

• Handling small collection and bankruptcy cases to litigation

• Conducting administrative reviews for the Department of Revenue, Employment Security, and the Property Tax Appeal Board

• Participating in civil litigation trials

• Managing workers compensation claims

• Dealing with claims filed against various State Funds

• Using acquired labor & employment experience to represent the Department in administrative review cases

• Prosecuting civil collections cases for both benefit overpayment and non-payment of unemployment insurance taxes, criminal prosecution of unemployment insurance fraud, representing the Department in bankruptcy cases and handling subpoenas or other official requests for information

• Drafting motions related to the above responsibilities and using complex litigation skills to handle cases effectively. Requirements • Must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

• Must be admitted to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction

• Proven experience in civil litigation, commercial litigation, complex commercial litigation, and complex litigation

• Demonstrated ability to draft motions and other court documents

• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to settle disputes outside of court when necessary

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret laws, rulings, and regulations in legal documents

• Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively present information to clients and key stakeholders

• Proficient in legal research and the use of legal databases

• Strong ethics and a high level of professionalism

• Ability to work independently and manage a large caseload

• Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills

• Ability to provide sound legal advice to clients

• Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
