The Trade Controller position is a new role includes the accounting, reporting and reconciliation of trade spending for the company and respective Business Units.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Establish and develop the trade controller function within the company; this is a newly created role

  • This role is responsible for month-end close process for the company's trade spend. This includes reconciliation of both the monthly trade expense and the Trade Liability balance sheet accounts for each Business Units along with monthly bridge variance analysis.

  • Manage and report out all material balance sheet fluctuations compared to prior year, prior quarter, etc.

  • Creates or approves journal entries as necessary and interacts with customer sales teams as necessary to make sure the reserve is adequate.

  • Monitors aging of trade balance sheet and communicates with Sales Finance teams to update trade tools appropriately as payments are posted to trade events.

  • Prepares necessary documentation for Tax department for prior year spending per Tax guidelines and timelines.

  • Liaison with appropriate teams to help resolve deduction issues

  • Completes and Distributes month-end reporting on trade variances vs. the Latest Estimate and AOP.

  • Ensure compliance for both Internal and External controls

  • Key contact for auditors for any financial audits; Internal and External audits and SOX Internal audits – supplying information and addressing questions. Responsible for developing action plans and executing solutions for audit points related to trade.

  • Finance Owner for Trade Performance Management (TPM) trade tools. Key resource on system implementation

  • Serve as resource for sales finance team when they have issues related to liabilities posting, deduction and check payment issues in Trade tools.

  • Serve as Finance resource for the RGM and BU Finance Teams.

  • Serve on special project committees, such as Acquisition implementations, software upgrade projects, etc. Create ad-hoc reports, analysis and presentations as requested or as needed.

    Requirements

Professional Experience / Qualifications:

  • 7+ years relevant experience; CPG industry / Extensive understanding of trade

  • CPA a plus

  • Comfortable with ambiguity can work autonomously; able to prioritize

  • Ability to operate strategically and tactically

  • Ability to earn trust and experience influencing senior leaders

  • Ability to distill complex concepts into simple and actionable insights
