The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for assuring compliance with federal, state & local tax statutes and regulations in support of the company in North America. The Senior Tax Accountant performs tax research and interprets tax statutes and regulations to determine the impact on the corporation. You will develop strategies, methodologies, systems, and procedures for reducing state & local tax liabilities, advise management on the impact of tax laws on the corporation, and negotiate with tax authorities regarding disputes and/or interpretations. In addition, you will help manage all US and Canadian tax returns, including income, property, sales & use, franchise, and other miscellaneous tax reporting, maintaining all tax-related supporting records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and review financial statement tax provision calculations.
Reconcile various sales and use tax accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Review, validate, and advise exemption certificate management.
Work with external tax consultants to provide quarterly and annual tax data for the preparation of tax estimates and returns.
Represents the corporation in audits by federal, state/provincial, and local tax authorities.
Interpret domestic and international tax concepts and regulations.
Analyze data and calculate the impact opportunities have on the company.
Performs other duties as directed.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business. CMA or CPA preferred.
Minimum of five years experience, focused on tax accounting and at least one tax preparation suite in the technology and software industry.
Extensive knowledge of U.S. tax legislation and accounting principles.
Knowledge of non-U.S. direct and indirect tax statutes is preferred but not required.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite.
Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals or governmental regulations.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and auditors.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables.
