Robert Half is seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Controller to join the ranks at a well-respected distribution company. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Based in the Hacienda Heights, California area, this opening for a Controller is a permanent position.

Your responsibilities

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

  • Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

    Requirements

  • Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

  • Skilled in analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Detailed and have the ability work independently

  • Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing

  • Vow to meet business deadlines

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Month end closings experience desired

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • CPA/MBA preferred

  • Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
