Description
We are actively seeking an Auditing Clerk to be a part of our team based in Cleveland, Ohio. In this role, you will be supporting tax auditing processes, ensuring compliance with county policies, and maintaining accurate tax records. You will also have the opportunity to communicate with multiple stakeholders and assist with training co-workers as needed. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct tax audits in line with county policy and departmental procedures, including the assembly of all required tax form information
• Communicate, both orally and in writing, with lodging establishments regarding upcoming audits
• Review daily room revenue reports, management/comp reports, adjustment/voucher reports, and room folios for claimed exemptions
• Assist with reassessments as needed and escalate non-routine questions or issues to higher level examiners
• Enter audit findings into specific software modules which will result in the system creating an invoice for payment
• Perform monthly tax collection processes, which include reviewing tax forms and exempt reports for accuracy, verifying online deposits processed via online portal and bank, and processing manual deposits
• Maintain vendor information and tax forms in the specific tax system as necessary
• Create online business center tasks for registration, tax forms, exemption report uploads, etc. to all vendors
• Maintain knowledge of tax code rules, County policies, and standard operating procedures
• Communicate and provide information to lodging tax vendors, general public, state employee requests, and staff from other County agencies
Requirements

• Ability to perform Accounting Functions effectively
• Knowledge and experience in Auditing
• Ability to handle Cash Activity
• Experience in Check Processing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Willingness to keep up with advancements in the field
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is preferred
• Relevant work experience in a similar role is an asset
• High ethical standards and professionalism, since this role involves dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
