Robert Half Accounts Payable Specialist in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Description

Our client, an esteemed government agency, is seeking a highly analytical and self-motivated Accounts Payable Specialist to join their finance team. The successful candidate will play a significant role in managing their accounts payable process, ensuring the successful management of expenses including the receipt, processing, verification and reconciling of invoices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and process accounts payable transactions in alignment with government policies and procedures.

  • Review and verify invoices for accuracy, ensuring compliance with contracts and purchase orders.

  • Obtain appropriate approvals for payments and ensure timely disbursement of funds through electronic transfers, checks, and purchase card payments.

  • Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure accurate financial reporting and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Maintain vendor records and collaborate with vendors to resolve payment inquiries or issues.

  • Work closely with internal departments (procurement, finance) to ensure accuracy of information and adherence to purchasing and financial guidelines.

  • Assist in audit preparation and respond to audit inquiries related to accounts payable activities.

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounts payable function.

  • Ensure compliance with public sector financial regulations, policies, and budgetary constraints.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of prior experience in Accounts Payable desired, preferably within the government sector.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.

  • Comprehensive understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable principles.

  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.

  • Proficient in using software such as MS Office, Excel, finance systems and databases for data entry.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with firm deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Certifications such as Certified Accounts Payable Professional (CAPP) or Government Financial Management (CGFM) are a plus.
