Robert Half has partnered with a stable, multi-state non-profit association, and is immediately looking to hire a Controller. The Controller opening is due to retirement and the incumbent will be on to help cross train this employee. Five years experience in a prior Controller role within a non-profit or association is highly desired!

Come join this well-respected association! In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for several operating companies, including financial reporting, budgeting & forecasting, assessing risk, analyzes accounting and internal control systems, and supporting audits. We are seeking an individual for this role who is able to motivate others by maintaining a positive professional attitude; exhibit integrity, reliability and leadership; and is capable of providing exceptional client services by managing self and others by responding with a sense of urgency, practicality and accountability. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Columbia, Maryland area.

Your responsibilities:

  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

  • Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Advanced Credentials such as MBA or CPA are preferred

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • Large ERP experience - preferably Great Plains (not required)

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Prior Non-Profit / Foundation experience highly desired
