The Controller will be a permanent employment opportunity and will be located in the Columbia, South Carolina region. Responsibilities include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will be essential for this role, and a creative type who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Your responsibilities
Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed
Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Ensure deliverables of self and team meet client expectations
Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to ensure the timely cash collection
Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
Occasionally perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities
Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis Requirements - Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
Month end closings experience desired
Proficiency in account reconciliation
Journal entries experience required
Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued
Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Strong communication and social skills
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
High attention to detail
Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
