Description Robert Half is seeking an ambitious Controller to become a vital part at an esteemed services company. In this leadership role, you will manage an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will plan and direct all accounting operational functions, manage the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assess accounting and internal control systems, and guide departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Columbia, South Carolina region.

Your responsibilities

  • Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

  • Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques Requirements - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

  • Extraordinary analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)

  • Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Accounts Payable (AP) experience

  • Knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Foundational knowledge in month end closings

  • Strong familiarity with Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent

  • Prior work done in public accounting is desired

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
