We are currently working with a $50 billion real estate / PE investment company that is looking to permanent a Controller. The company offers 3-4 weeks of vacation and excellent benefits. The ideal candidate must be a CPA, have real estate industry experience and (ideally) have exposure to public accounting. The position is located here in Dallas, Texas. Here is a detailed job description: GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION The Controller is responsible for the oversight of a group of designated client real estate portfolios. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for supervising accountants performing accounting and reporting on direct real estate investments, including complex joint ventures and multi-tier commingled funds. •Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio level financial statements and other client reporting. •Proactive and aggressive in adding value through new ideas and processes in order to produce optimum operational efficiency and reduced costs. •Effectively manage and develop personnel. •Communicate effectively with outside clients, upper management, peers and subordinates. •Responsible for staying apprised of issues affecting real estate including all GAAP technical matters and ensuring compliance with NCREIF & REIS standards. •Coordinate client equity contributions and distributions. •Coordinate and ensure completion of annual audits by required deadlines. •Proactive in continuously evaluating and recommending improvements and enhancements within real estate reporting software to obtain efficiencies in reporting where possible. •Perform thorough review of performance returns, advisor incentive fees, and acquisition / disposition fees on real estate investments. •Assist other departments with the acquisition and disposition of real estate properties. •Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with the portfolio and asset management teams. •Participate and help coordinate quarterly accounting staff meetings. •Other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Bachelors or masters degree in accounting/finance. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS: CPA certification is strongly preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum of seven plus years' experience of related experience. Minimum of four years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage a staff of highly experience in accountants. SKILLS: An in-depth knowledge of computers / financial software is also necessary. A demonstrated reputation for excellence and achievement. Requirements - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
