Robert Half Finance is helping a renowned services company find an ambitious candidate to fill the role of a Controller. The leadership position is responsible for an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, analyzes accounting and internal control systems, and guides departmental staff. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in East Houston and does not offer remote work.
Responsibilities
Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month
Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation
Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly
Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash
Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Requirements
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
CPA or MBA preferred
Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
Foundational knowledge in construction project accounting
Proven knowledge of Year-end and Month End Close
General familiarity with Data Analysis Tools and Data Analytics
Quality experience in a Multi-state Environment
Commercial Construction Projects experience
Strong communication and social skills
Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
Skilled in analytical, quantitative and social skills
Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
