Robert Half is supporting the recruiting efforts of a company in the non-profit industry to find a Controller. This is a full time, permanent position near Downtown Denver. The Controller will be responsible for all finance and accounting operations in the division, including:

  • Oversee all aspects of accounting and finance functions for a nonprofit organization with multiple divisions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization's mission and goals, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, reports, and presentations for senior management, board members, and external stakeholders.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Collaborate with program managers and department heads to monitor and analyze divisional budgets and financial performance.

  • Conduct periodic financial reviews and audits to assess internal controls, identify risks, and recommend process improvements.

  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and financial institutions, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and resolving any issues or discrepancies.

  • Stay abreast of accounting standards, tax regulations, and industry trends relevant to the nonprofit sector, and communicate updates and implications to management and staff.

  • Support strategic decision-making by providing financial insights, analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership, contributing to the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization.

    Requirements

  • 10 years of accounting & finance experience

  • 5 years of that experience needs to be recent nonprofit

  • Strong GAAP, AICPA and FASB

  • Willing to do both accounting and finance – this is a blended role

  • Experience overseeing both accounting & finance teams

  • Supervisory experience

  • Ability to work 100% in office
