Robert Half Accountant in Detroit, Michigan

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for an Accountant in the non-profit sector. This role is based in Detroit, Michigan and will be an integral part of our finance department. The successful candidate will handle, prepare, compute, manage, research, and analyze all accounting data to produce accurate and timely financial reports. The role also involves managing accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger handling, journal entries, and the processing of grants.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and journal entries.

• Construct and monitor reliable control systems to manage and improve organizational spending.

• Perform the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions to ensure all invoices are paid accurately and on time.

• Provide regular and timely reconciliations for all accounts.

• Compile, analyze, and report financial data that creates transparency and insight for management decisions.

• Monitor Accounting grant activities to ensure financial compliance with the respective grant stipulations.

• Collaborate with the finance team to coordinate and strategize for both short-term and long-term financial goals.

• Work with outside auditors and prepare materials and reports needed for the audit process.

• Maintain an orderly accounting filing system and develop a system for keeping financial records.

• Implement financial policies and procedures. Requirements • Must have a solid understanding of accounting functions and principles

• Proficiency in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is required

• Ability to perform auditing tasks is essential

• Must be knowledgeable about budget processes and able to manage them effectively

• Experience with government grants is a plus

• Must have the skills to administer grants effectively

• Familiarity with grant accounting is a must

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required

• Professional certification such as CPA is preferred.
