JOB PURPOSE: The Controller is responsible for directing the financial functions of the company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board,, other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the Hospitality industry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's financial function and performance. Includes: write up and review journal entries, review payroll, monitor all activity on company credit cards, act as liaison to Amex and merchant bankers, review all payments made, manage the chart of accounts, close out the books each month, prepare and submit monthly financial package.

· Prepare annual budget and forecast in coordination with department heads and President. Create summary annual financial budget. Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.

· Manage cash, including weekly review of cash flow and monthly review of reconciliations. Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position. Develop and maintain a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Initiate all requests for funding.

· Manage annual audit. Manage all income tax and property tax filings through outside firm. Oversight of sales tax submissions.

· Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.

· Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the company may enter. Liaison to attorneys for all Trademark applications and filings. Provide all information for insurance brokers for all insurance policies (malpractice, liability, worker’s comp, etc.).

· Participate in the development of the corporation's plans and programs as a strategic partner.

· Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges. Act as a problem solver for any problems with SAGE, outside vendors, banks, etc.

· Evaluation of the finance department and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.

Requirements

Experience, Competencies and Education

· An experienced leader and financial supervisor

· An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.

· A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.

· A well organized and self-directed individual who is a team player and comfortable in a “hands-on” environment.

· An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.

· A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective and is well versed in systems.

· CPA or CMA

· Strong Excel and Office suite skills

· Experience with SAGE or equivalent packages

· Masters degree (MA) or equivalent is a plus
