Description
We are seeking a top Attorney with Construction & Insurance experience for a great General Counsel position at a Construction Company in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. This role involves providing strategic legal guidance and managing legal risks to ensure the smooth running of our business operations.
Responsibilities:
• Analyze and manage all risks faced by the corporation, ensuring they are either acceptable or are managed through legal efforts or business practices.
• Collaborate with business leaders to prepare business contracts, leases, purchase orders, and other related documents while ensuring they meet company guidelines and legal parameters.
• Represent the corporation in litigation and other legal proceedings.
• Act as an agent of the corporation in various transactions, interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations.
• Conduct research as needed and provide recommendations on legal issues to executive management.
• Develop and present training materials on legal related topics for corporate directors, management, and employees.
• Manage the utilization of outside counsel effectively; setting goals, determining level of services and fees in alignment with those goals, and keeping in-house those tasks that are best or most efficiently performed in house.
• Provide customized legal advice with an understanding of the company's culture, business processes, business goals, and bargaining position with other entities.
• Review bid documents from a legal perspective and develop appropriate qualifications for bids.
• Handle the administration of civil litigation claims and respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
• Write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Requirements
• Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Must be an active member in good standing with the MN State Bar
• Minimum of 5 years of Construction Law experience
• Proficiency in Briefing, Civil Litigation, Claim Administration, and Complaint Handling
• Proven negotiation skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and disputes
• Experience with Construction Company Insurance matters
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Proficiency in legal research and documentation
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws related to construction and contracting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• High level of professionalism and ethical standards
• Experience with case management software and other relevant legal technologies
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
