Description
A publicly traded biotech company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller consultant to join our finance team and oversee both technical accounting and operational accounting functions. This position requires expertise in SOX compliance and a strong background in financial reporting for public companies. This is a remote position.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the operational accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
Review and analyze financial data, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making and strategic initiatives.
Manage the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Collaborate with external auditors to support the annual audit process, including providing requested documentation, addressing inquiries, and ensuring timely completion of audit deliverables.
Provide guidance and interpretation on complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, business combinations, stock-based compensation, and other technical accounting issues in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations.
Review and analyze contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to assess the accounting and financial implications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Legal, R& D, and Commercial, to ensure proper accounting treatment for complex transactions.
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with GAAP and SEC regulations.
Conduct periodic assessments of internal controls, identify control gaps, and recommend remedial actions as necessary.
Coordinate with external auditors to ensure compliance with SOX requirements and address any control deficiencies or audit findings.
Assist with Purchase Price Accounting
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is required.
Extensive experience (10+ years) in accounting and finance roles, including technical accounting and operational accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC regulations, with expertise in complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, and business combinations.
Proven experience managing and maintaining SOX compliance programs for public companies.
Previous experience in a Controller or similar leadership role overseeing financial reporting and accounting operations for a publicly traded Biotech, Medical Device or Manufacturing company required.
Experience working in Microsoft 365 a plus.
