In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. What you get to do every day

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (A/P, A/R, Payroll, GL) and maintaining accurate accounting records using Sage, and Microsoft Excel while adhering to standard practice internal control procedures for all aspects of accounting.

  • Monthly and annual review of outstanding A/R.

  • Review weekly timesheets & bi-weekly payroll processing for accuracy and completeness.

  • Review with the GL Accountant the month-end and year-end closing process & financial statements in accordance with GAAP

  • Review all necessary reports for compensation related functions such as quarterly tax reports, 401(k) deposits, year-end W-2s, etc.

  • Interface with Human Resource professional to ensure compliance in all employee policy, benefits and pay matters

  • Train, mentor, and coach new and current accounting associates

  • Prepare financial reports and documents including snapshots, performance dashboards, forecasts, budgets & variance reports timely and accurately in compliance with GAAP

  • Prepare and deliver a financial presentation for the company management/board meetings and attend management meetings

  • Monitor budget and YTD performance; make recommendations for corrective action to management

  • Act as immediate contact with other advisors on accounting matters and provide reports.

  • Oversee and direct audit, tax, accounting, and financial planning for the organization.

  • Interface with CPA in preparation of all tax detail work papers

  • Create efficiencies in accounting processes by moving away from legacy manual processes and implementing technology solutions and automation

  • Taking the lead on new initiatives e.g. checking of expenditure requests against approved budgets for the availability of funds prior to commitment, and exercise accounting control to ensure that budgeted expenditures do not exceed amounts authorized.

  • Manage employees on the Accounting team and perform annual employee reviews


  • Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills highly desired

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

-7+ years of accounting experience

  • Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"

  • High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

  • Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued
