You might be the Controller Robert Half Finance is looking for, if you want to take responsibility for the accounting and clerical department of a successful company. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Fort Washington, Pennsylvania region. To succeed in this role, you will need to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will be essential for this role, and a creative type who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. What you get to do every day

  • Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure efficient and successful firm-wide operation

  • Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

  • Assess, execute and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

  • Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them monthly

  • Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

  • Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to retain complex work directions

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Background working with account reconciliation

  • Practical knowledge of Business Initiatives

  • Demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP

  • Foundational knowledge in Controllership

  • General familiarity with Accounting Systems

  • Income Statements experience highly preferred

  • Previous experience working with auditing

  • Full Cycle experience

  • Good understanding of Corporate Tax Return

  • Knowledge of Controllership

  • Adeptness in CPA

  • Earlier work involving Microsoft Excel

  • Deep understanding of Controllership Functions

  • Monthly Reporting experience highly desired

  • Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
