Robert Half Senior Buyer in Fountain Inn, South Carolina


We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Buyer in the Transportation Equipment Manufacturing industry. Located in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, you will play a pivotal role in managing and executing buying processes, negotiating contracts, and ensuring optimal component selection.


• Place purchase orders with suppliers based on system-generated requirements, confirming price and expected delivery date as required.

• Expedite and follow up on purchase orders to improve or confirm delivery dates as per business needs.

• Resolve accounting and receiving discrepancies, particularly in communication with suppliers for placed purchase orders.

• Create and maintain documentation or records of communication with suppliers.

• Resolve pricing or lead time issues that do not meet the business needs, within the commodities and products that you have experience of.

• Improve inventory performance in terms of service levels and prevent long-term issues through effective planning and marketplace awareness.

• Create and document supply contracts to suit both short and long-term business needs, with support from management.

• Select suppliers to achieve optimal cost for the business, without limitations on prior history.

• Negotiate prices to improve or maintain the business cost position in the marketplace or to correct delivery challenges.

• Make supplier commitments to improve or eliminate inventory and lead time constraints.

• Resolve difficult cost or delivery negotiation issues with minimal supervision or guidance, providing a win-win situation for the business.

• Select suppliers and supply lines to improve or maintain the business cost position.

• Make inventory commitment decisions to achieve business goals regarding inventory level and service.


• Minimum of 5 years experience in a Purchasing role within the Manufacturing industry

• Proficiency in using large ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning and ERP Solutions - Knowledge of Epicor Erp system preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suites

• Familiarity with About Time software

• Understanding of Buying Processes and Component Selection

• Strong Customer Service skills

• Experience in a Manufacturing environment

• Skills in Contract Negotiation

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build relationships with suppliers.
