Description

Fantastic marketing and member services organization in Montgomery County MD is seeking a Controller to be a in a player/coach role with hybrid responsibilities over accounting, financial reporting and FP&A. The Controller will report to the CFO and supervise a talented team of 5 professionals This position is currently fully remote and will continue to have flexibility and telework options post-COVID. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• The controller is responsible for managing the finance and accounting functions for the company, its subsidiaries and other affiliated entities, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, tax and other governmental compliance, payroll, and automated accounting systems.

• Develops and administers accounting and internal control policies and procedures needed to provide control of financial operations.

• Ensures short-range and long-range forecasting of receivables, cash requirements and obligations. Projects and plans cash flow and investments.

• Hires, trains, develops, supervises and monitors performance of finance department staff

• Coordinates with the independent auditors for their annual audits of the organization and its subsidiaries financial reports and review of related records, internal controls and accounting policies and procedures

• Manages the preparation and review of tax and informational filings. These include corporate taxes, non-profit information filings, labor, and ERISA filings.

• Manages interaction with outside parties in regard to contractual and legal processes entered into by the organization.

• Prepares or reviews monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports. These reports require a thorough understanding of the company's products and accounting practices. The reports include not only transactions, but those of its subsidiary, the Benefits Relief Fund, and some accounts and transactions of its parent and the Insurance Trust. The reports are presented to the Members Insurance Trustees, Board of Directors, Executive Management and NEA Board of Directors. The accuracy and time lines of these reports are essential to the management of products.

• Directs the creation and provision of financial analysis schedules requested by management and independent auditors; and prepares the annual financial report for audit.

• Builds and maintains financial forecasting models and financial projections to determine and anticipate operational results.

• Compares performance with operating plans and standards, and provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management and to governance.

• Reviews, analyzes and interprets all financial and budgetary reports for management to ensure timely and effective decision making.

• Presents financial statements to various Boards of Directors and Trustees.

• Builds and maintains financial forecasting models and financial projections to determine and anticipate operational results.

• Presents financial statements to various Boards of Directors and Trustees.

• Manages the organization’s budget processes. Establishes budget policies and procedures; and provides direction to budget managers and Finance staff in implementing them.

Requirements

  • CPA

  • 10+ years of relevant experience including a mix of Public Accounting and in industry Corporate Accounting

  • Preparation/Creation of budgets, forecasts and cash flow models.

  • High level of critical thinking and proven ability to synthesize new concepts

  • 5+ years of supervisory experience with history of successfully developing the skills of your staff and bringing people together in a cohesive unit

  • Outstanding written, oral and presentation skills

  • Some TAX knowledge

Preferred:

  • NetSuite experience

  • Mix of experience in both Non-Profit and For-Profit work environments
