The ideal candidate for this position can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, keep track of a couple 100 projects on the WIP, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. This position is for Construction Controllers who can lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when providing client services. Candidates who are creative team players with a talent for challenging the status quo, coming up with unique ideas, negotiating and influencing will be preferred for this position. What you get to do every single day

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

  • Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management

  • Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

  • Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

  • Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations

  • Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners

  • Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

  • Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor on a monthly basis

The ideal candidate for this Construction Controller role will have 5+ years of construction accounting experience or coming out of public accounting with construction clients, strong management skills, BS in Accounting and the ability to lead this department to the next level.   • Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus

  • Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

  • Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds

  • Distinguished analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Strong familiarity with month end closings

  • Practical knowledge of Construction Accounting

  • Experience with account reconciliation

  • Proven knowledge of Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation

  • Quality experience with Construction Industry

  • Earlier work involving construction project accounting

  • General familiarity with Microsoft Excel

  • Wide ranging experience with Construction Industry Experience

  • Well-founded grasp of bank reconciliations

  • Foundational knowledge in general ledger

  • Financial statement preparation experience

  • Cost accounting experience

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (verbal, written, and listening)

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
