Robert Half Bookkeeper in Garden City, New York
As a Full Charge Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company's financial records, from accounts payable and receivable to payroll and general ledger entries. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently to maintain accurate financial records.
Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payments. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies. Maintain relationships with vendors and handle inquiries regarding payment status.
Generate and distribute customer invoices, record payments, and follow up on overdue accounts. Manage collections efforts and communicate with customers regarding payment issues. Reconcile accounts receivable ledger and resolve any discrepancies.
Calculate employee wages, deductions, and taxes. Process payroll on a regular basis and ensure timely payment to employees. Prepare and file payroll tax returns and other required payroll reports.
Maintain the general ledger by recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy of financial data. Prepare month-end and year-end closing entries and financial statements.
Reconcile bank statements and credit card statements on a monthly basis. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner. Monitor cash flow and ensure sufficient funds are available for operational needs.
Prepare financial reports such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Analyze financial data and provide insights to management to support decision-making.
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax filings, including sales tax, payroll tax, and income tax returns. Stay updated on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. Implement best practices and accounting controls to enhance accuracy and effectiveness of financial operations.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in full charge bookkeeping or accounting role.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
