Description Robert Half is searching for an efficient Controller to join a reputable construction services company. The leadership position is responsible for an accounting and clerical department. The Controller plans and directs all accounting operational functions, manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, analyzes accounting and internal control systems, and guides departmental staff. What you get to do every day
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Present monthly financial reports to executive committee and partners
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Responsible for month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual
Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management
Assess deliverables of self and team to verify they meet client expectations Requirements - The ideal candidate will be highly-skilled with exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills
Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
CPA or MBA preferred
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment
US GAAP experience
Payroll experience preferred
Construction Accounting experience
Experience with union payroll
Proficiency in month end closings
Adeptness in project management
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
Be detailed, flexible, and organized
Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
