Description

The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This hands-on position is responsible for making journal entries, managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and overseeing cost accounting and inventory management. The Controller will lead a small team of two accounting professionals and will have the flexibility to work from home as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Journal Entries and General Ledger Management

  • Prepare and post journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.

Month-End, Quarter-End, and Year-End Close

  • Lead the closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

  • Prepare financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.

Cost Accounting

  • Analyze and report on cost variances, production costs, and profitability.

  • Develop and maintain standard costing systems.

  • Conduct cost analysis and work with production teams to optimize cost efficiency.

Inventory Management

  • Oversee inventory accounting, including cycle counts and physical inventories.

  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting.

  • Implement and monitor internal controls related to inventory.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor a small team of two accounting professionals.

  • Delegate tasks and ensure the team meets its objectives.

  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.

  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.

  • Assist in financial planning and strategy development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • CPA or CMA certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., JDE, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Flexibility to work from home as needed.
