Description
The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This hands-on position is responsible for making journal entries, managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and overseeing cost accounting and inventory management. The Controller will lead a small team of two accounting professionals and will have the flexibility to work from home as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Journal Entries and General Ledger Management
Prepare and post journal entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Month-End, Quarter-End, and Year-End Close
Lead the closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Prepare financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
Cost Accounting
Analyze and report on cost variances, production costs, and profitability.
Develop and maintain standard costing systems.
Conduct cost analysis and work with production teams to optimize cost efficiency.
Inventory Management
Oversee inventory accounting, including cycle counts and physical inventories.
Ensure accurate inventory valuation and reporting.
Implement and monitor internal controls related to inventory.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor a small team of two accounting professionals.
Delegate tasks and ensure the team meets its objectives.
Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
Assist in financial planning and strategy development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., JDE, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work from home as needed.
