Description

Our client, a prestigious law firm located just outside of Richmond, VA, is seeking a dedicated and experienced midlevel Estate Administration Paralegal to join their team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and file petitions for probate, letters of administration, inventories, accountings, and other necessary documents with the court.

  • Prepare deeds, affidavits, and other legal documents required for the transfer of assets.

Asset Management: Assist in identifying, valuing, and managing estate assets, including real estate, personal property, bank accounts, and investments.

  • Coordinate with appraisers, accountants, and financial institutions to gather and verify asset information.

Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between clients, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and court personnel to provide updates and gather necessary information.

  • Respond to inquiries from beneficiaries and other interested parties regarding the status of the estate administration.

Tax Preparation and Filing:

  • Prepare estate tax returns, including federal and state estate tax returns, and assist with other tax filings related to the estate.

  • Gather and organize financial information needed for tax preparation.

Court Interaction:

  • File documents with the probate court and ensure compliance with court deadlines and procedures.

  • Coordinate and schedule hearings, and prepare attorneys for court appearances related to estate matters.

Research:

  • Conduct legal research on estate administration issues, including probate laws, trust administration, and tax regulations.

  • Stay updated on changes in estate laws and procedures.

File and Record Maintenance:

  • Maintain organized and accurate files and records for each estate, ensuring all documents are properly filed and accessible.

  • Track important dates and deadlines to ensure timely completion of tasks.

Client Support:

  • Provide compassionate support to clients during the estate administration process, understanding the sensitive nature of their situations.

  • Guide clients through the probate process, explaining legal requirements and procedures.

Administrative Support:

  • Assist attorneys with drafting correspondence, organizing meetings, and managing calendars.

  • Perform general administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, and mailing documents.

Financial Administration:

  • Assist in the payment of debts and expenses of the estate.

  • Distribute assets to beneficiaries according to the terms of the will or trust.

Coordinate the valuation and transfer of estate assets:

  • Manage and oversee the appraisal and transfer process for estate assets, including real estate, personal property, and financial accounts.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal, with a strong focus on estate administration.

  • Paralegal certification or degree from an accredited institution preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of estate administration processes and probate court procedures.

  • Proficiency in legal research and the ability to interpret legal documents.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with legal practice management software.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong ethical standards and professional integrity.
