The Senior Accountant furthers the company's goals through the preparation and consolidation of financial statements, the analysis and reconciliations of accounts, preparation of audits, and management of internal control maintenance and regulatory reporting. This Senior Accountant role is located in Glen Cove, New York within the Nonprofit field.

Major responsibilities

  • Manage Ad-hoc projects as necessary

  • Offer involvement in various department-wide initiatives

  • Commitment to continuously improve the automation of the accounting and reporting process

  • Analyze financial information and report on financial results (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks)

  • Work with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies, procedures and controls and provide support on special requests

  • Execute monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables (journal entries, reconciliations, reports) in compliance with GAAP

  • Provide monthly consolidated P& L and Balance Sheet flux analysis for management reporting

  • Provide balance sheet account reconciliations

  • Contribute to coordinating quarterly reviews and testing with internal and external auditors

    Requirements

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills

  • Candidate must possess first-rate analytical, quantitative and professional skills

  • Efficient in Excel and Yardi systems

  • BA/BS in Accounting

  • Bank reconciliations experience required

  • Solid understanding of journal entries

  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • 5+ years of overall general accounting experience

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Prior experience in a nonprofit accounting environment is preferred

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent

  • Ability to meet business deadlines
