Located in the Goleta, California region, the organization offering this long-term contract / temporary opportunity provides rewards to those who dedicate extra effort in the work place. The Staff Accountant plays a major role in the preparation of monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. This position will require a time commitment, since it produces Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. You'll also have responsibility over various aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. You'll also review schedules for the reporting processes, stay in touch with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and play an active role in compliance.
Key responsibilities
Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management
Assist in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Organize capital lease and monthly payment schedules
Offer descriptions of a large number of financial data and communicate insights in a useful and understandable manner
Participate in various department-wide initiatives
Perform month end close, journal entries with minimum supervision
Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed Requirements - University Degree experience highly desired
Deep understanding of journal entries
Foundational knowledge in bank reconciliations
Microsoft Excel experience
GAAP Accounting experience desired
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
Skilled with ERP systems
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Spreadsheet and database capabilities
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
2+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
