Robert Half Assistant Controller in Houston, Texas
Description We are partnering with a leading oil and gas service company operating in Northwest Houston seeking an Assistant Controller to assist in overseeing the company's financial activities, data reporting, as well as other financial requirements and standards. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Financial Controller. This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial reports, ensuring accurate data, strict compliance with accounting standards and the effective execution of control policies and processes across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis, and commentaries.
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures.
Perform detailed reviews and analysis of company revenues, costs, and balance sheet accounts.
Assist in overseeing daily operations of the accounting department such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Treasury.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal financial controls and procedures.
Assist in management of annual audits with both internal and external auditors.
Collaborate with other departments to improve financial reporting and the budgeting process.
Interpret complex financial information and provide updates and information as needed.
Identify areas for cost reduction and operational improvements within the organization.
Comply with all federal, state, and local protocols including legal requirements and interpret new and existing legislation.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent. A CPA certification or an advanced degree is highly desirable.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong understanding of US GAAP and oil and gas accounting practices.
ADVANCED Excel, as well as familiarity with ERP system. NetSuite is a plus
Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and strategic thinking ability.
Compensation is up to 120K plus bonus. This is a hybrid opportunity.

• Proficiency in Accounting Functions is necessary
• Experience in Auditing is required
• Knowledge and understanding of Budget Processes is essential
• Proficiency in using NetSuite is a must
• Experience in Month End Close procedures is required
• Must be able to handle Monthly Financial Reporting effectively.
